Vinton County is the least populated county in Ohio. Vinton County's wooded hills and natural scenery make it one of the most beautiful places in the state. With a host of state parks, state forests and a portion of the Wayne National Forest, there is no bound to the opportunity for outdoor recreation or for good old fashioned relaxation.
An area of the Wayne National Forest is located in the center of the county. Three state forests are partly in the county: Zaleski State Forest, Tar Hollow State Forest, and Richland Furnace State Forest. The county features two state parks: Lake Hope State Park and Lake Alma State Park. There are three state wildlife areas in the county: Wellston State Wildlife Area, Turkey Ridge State Wildlife Area, and the 16,000-acre (65 km2) Raccoon Ecological Management Area.
