This section of the Ohio Visitors Network focuses on the beautiful Southeast Ohio region. This region roughly overlaps with the Appalachian "mixed-mesophytic" forests, which begin in southeast Ohio and southwest Pennsylvania and continue to north Georgia and Alabama. The mixed-mesophytic forest is found only in Central and Southern Appalachia and eastern/central China. It is one of the most biodiverse temperate forests in the world.

The Hocking Hills in Hocking County is the Canopy Tour Capital of the Midwest. More than 50 ziplines provide a bird's eye view of breathtaking landscape as you fly from tree top to tree top. Take a traditional canopy tour along 5 to 11 ziplines through the tree canopy over caves and waterfalls. The vibrant Ohio Wine industry has come to the Hocking Hills. Three wineries are now in operation offering visitors wine tastings, vineyard tours and locally sourced foods to accompany the vino. You will also enjoy Old Man's Cave, located on State Route 664, Ash Cave and Cedar Falls.

Meigs County is full of golden opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts, music lovers, locavores, and historians. Major attractions include Forked Run State Park, Shade River State Forest, Meigs County Museum, Buffington Island State Park (the site of the only Civil War battle fought in Ohio), the state's oldest standing courthouse at Chester and the Pomeroy historic district.

Robbins Crossing in Athens County is a collection of original log cabins built by settlers of the Valley in the 1850s. These cabins were donated by landowners, and carefully dismantled at their original locations. The cabins were then reassembled at Robbins Crossing to form what might have been a typical village for the settlers. An oasis from the everyday, Athens County was called one of the "Top 12 Great Places You've Never Heard Of" by Mother Earth News in 2006. Just over an hour from Columbus, and three from Cincinnati and Pittsburgh, PA, Athens County is on the way to just about anywhere.
