Steubenville, the county seat of Jefferson County, sits on the banks of the mighty Ohio River and is a city steeped in rich history and tradition. Known as the City of Murals, Steubenville is home to almost twenty thousand citizens. Founded in 1797, Steubenville is a family friendly community with safe neighborhoods and excellent schools which offer a wide variety of educational opportunities. The First Federal Land Office in the United States was erected here in 1801; and along with adjacent Historic Fort Steuben, the reconstructed fort of 1787, can be visited at its present-day location at the intersection of 3rd and Adams in Downtown. You will enjoy touring the 17 downtown Historic Churches with each offering an interesting history and beautiful architecture; a tour of the 22 City Murals, depicting Steubenville's history, as well as dining at Steubenville's many fine restaurants.

Steubenville fondly remembers celebrity Dean Martin, known for his smash-hit singing, weekly TV shows, prolific movies, and popular stage appearances. Dino Crocetti was born in Steubenville on June 7, 1917, and spent his boyhood growing up in Steubenville until he left at age seventeen to pursue his dreams in the world of entertainment.

Edwin Stanton was born on December 19, 1814, in Steubenville, Ohio. He was the Secretary of War in the Lincoln Administration during the American Civil War, probably best remembered for his quote at Lincoln's death: "Now he belongs to the ages".
