Hardin County, in Northwest Ohio, is conveniently located approximately 30 miles from Lima, Marion, Findlay and Bellefontaine.
Hardin County is home to a large community of Old Order Amish. They still live a centuries-old "plain" lifestyle and the horse and buggy remain a primary form of transportation. The simple lifestyle of the Amish, their plain clothing, and their denial of modern technology are a careful expression of their devotion to their religious beliefs. While the Old Order Amish do not operate typical stores, signs at the end of their driveway indicate products for sale at their home and they welcome customers.
Ohio Northern University in Ada offers numerous cultural and entertainment programs. The Freed Center for the Performing Arts attracts many nationally known speakers and entertainers as well as being a first class facility for university theater and concert productions. In addition Ohio Northern is also the home to the 132 seat Stambaugh Theater which hosts more intimate and experimental productions.
Lawrence Woods State Nature Preserve located 4 miles south of Kenton, is one of Ohio's newest preserves. The 1,059 acre site is the largest known mature forest in this region and is home to a number of rare plant and animal species. The forest has large trees of many species including white, yellow, red and bur oaks, as well as beech, white ash, shagbark hickory, red maple, sugar maple and sycamore. The Woods is also excellent for viewing birds and spring wildflowers.
