Bucyrus, the county seat, offers small city living with rural options as well as easy access to big-city fare such as professional sporting venues, universities and museums. It also the Bratwurst Capital of America, as witnessed by its three-day festival each August. Located in north central Ohio, Bucyrus is a one-hour drive from both Columbus and Lake Erie, and Cleveland and Toledo are each only 90 minutes away.
Bucyrus boasts the nation's oldest copper kettle manufacturer in D. Picking and Company, where they continue to produce copper products using the same methods used when they opened in 1874.
Crawford County's rural roots are still very visible, with many large family farms and agribusiness ventures adding to the area's prosperity. Hord Livestock Company is one of the area's largest producers of market hogs, and also raises cattle and grain crops. The pheasant industry is also big in the Bucyrus area, with hatcheries and farms shipping more than 800,000 birds across the nation each year.
Our community theater group, the Bucyrus Little Theatre, stages four to six productions each year, and we enjoy live performances and concerts from the Crawford County Community Association. The Chamber of Commerce organizes free concerts in Millennium Park each summer with our Music at the Mural series, and the Bucyrus Public Library offers a variety of ongoing programs.
