Attractions include the birthplace of Ulysses S. Grant (US President and American Cival War General), the Tri-State Warbird Museum, dozens of sites along the historic Underground Railroad Freedom Trail and the world's only Cardboard Boat Museum.
During his youth in Georgetown, Grant attended school, worked in his father's tannery, and spent hours working with horses, his favorite pastime. A Georgetown couple purchased the Grant Boyhood Home in 1977 to prevent its demolition. The home was restored and furnished, with one room which is dedicated to Grant and Georgetown memorabilia. The site has been open since 1982 when it was put on the National Register and declared a National Historic Landmark.
The National Underground Railroad Freedom Center is a museum of ideas, a site of conscience, a museum of American history, a museum of African American history, an educational resource and a center for dialogue.
