Families have long enjoyed vacationing at beautiful Grand Lake St. Marys. Ohio's largest inland lake has been a destination for boating, swimming, fishing and picnicking for many generations. Grand Lake St. Marys State Park consists of nearly 600 acres of prime lakeside parkland. There are trails and walkways, great access to fishing, swimming beaches, picnic amenities, excellent bird watching opportunities, public boat launch areas and a large, well maintained state campground.
Named in honor of Wapakoneta native Neil Armstrong, first man to set foot on the moon, the Armstrong Air and Space Museum in Wapakoneta, Ohio chronicles Ohio's contributions to the history of space flight. Among the items on display are a F5D Sky Lancer, the Gemini VIII spacecraft, Apollo 11 artifacts and a moon rock. You can also view artifacts from Armstrong's life and see how a young man from small town America went on to become the first man to walk on the moon.
Two significant battles in the late 1700's forever changed the course of this country's history eventually leading to the signing of the Treaty of Greenville and opening up the lands of the Northwest Territory for settlement by the colonists. Visitors to present day Fort Recovery see that history come alive through the reconstructed fort with the two-story blockhouses and connecting stockade along with two log cabins depicting early colonial homes and tools.
The Bicycle Museum of America houses a rich source of bicycle history with over 300 bicycles on display. For serious bicyclists it is a unique look into the history of a beloved sport. For most it is an opportunity to stroll down memory lane.
